What You Need To Know About Meat And Cancer

There had been several studies conducted about the relationship of peoples daily diet and the development of cancer. These studies have resulted in many findings about certain food groups that increase the risk of cancer development, one of them is meat.

The World Health Organization recognizes these case studies between vegetarians and meat eaters which show that meat eaters have about forty percent of increased risk of cancer development. All of the various Cancer Institutes all over the world closely linked red meat as well as processed meat with several types of cancer development.

What causes meat to become a risk for cancer development in humans? When meat is cooked or processed, it forms several carcinogenic compounds such as Heterocyclic Amines (HCAs) and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs). Carcinogenic compounds are harmful elements that aid the growth of cancer cells. Meat also devoid the body with the good effects of antioxidants, fibers, and other essential nutrients that can help minimize cancer. When you have been eating meat all your life with very little consumption of fruits and vegetables, you belong to the millions of people who are likely to develop cancer.

The development of breast cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, kidney cancer, and pancreatic cancer has direct linkage to meat consumption. Western countries like UK and US have more cancer cases as compared to Asian countries like Japan, China, and Korea because of peoples diet filled with various red meat products such as beef and lamb and processed meat foods like sausages, hamburgers, hotdogs, and a whole lot more.

Meat does provide us with proteins needed by our muscle development but its direct effect on possible cancer development tells us to get our protein daily recommended allowance from other food sources such as beans. It would be best for our health to avoid meat earlier to avoid cancer. Eating meat in controlled proportions can also be done, as long as we dont go overboard.

Age, the projected length of your life, your emotions regarding the necessary risks and side-effects in addition to your chances of recovering are the considerations needed for each type of treatments.

Most of the choices available for treatment of this cancer hinge on how far or if the tumor has in actual fact spread beyond the prostate. For tumors that confined themselves within the prostate, a surgical procedure known as radical prostatectomy and radiation therapy are the most widespread of treatment alternatives.

Radical prostatectomy is a surgical procedure for getting rid of the entire prostate gland in addition to those lymph nodes in close proximity and those who undergo this surgical procedure is sedated with general anesthesia. The prostate gland upon removal, a catheter inserted into the bladder through the penis for the purpose of removal of urine until it completely recovered. This procedure provides the greatest assurance of being completely healed from prostate cancer providing the tumors together with whole gland is entirely removed. The possible dangers of choosing this surgical method are impotence and inability to control your bladder (or medically known as incontinence).

Common to all types of surgical procedures, inherent risks and threats to health are there so keep yourself attuned to the danger that blood be lost during this surgical method and remember to store two pints of your own blood.

On the other hand, radiation therapy is a form of prostate cancer treatments that can be categorized into two kinds – external beam and radioactive pellets. External beam is carried out by the use of an x-ray type machine, whereas a radioactive pellet is performed by introduction of elevated amounts of radiation that is directed to the tumor of the prostate. The sad fact is the majority of the patients that have gone through radiation therapy wind up being affected by impotent inside of two years following the therapy.

One of the other techniques offered is the “watchful waiting” but this is usually chosen by elderly men that might carry elevated risks from passing away from other health causes instead of prostate cancer. It is where physicians oversea the progress and growth of the slow-moving tumors. As the progress and growth is watched exclusive of medicine or other kind of cancer treatments, by regularly monitoring the prostate-specific antigen or PSA levels, patient and the physician wait for the tumor to progress.

The development of the prostate tumor is assisted by the androgen male hormone. Reduction in size of the tumor is achieved through the level of androgens by hormone therapy. However, tumors that spread to the boundaries of your prostate are unable to be treated by surgical procedure or radiation. In its place, the option for the treatment of these tumors is hormone therapy.

The Symptoms Of Hemorrhoids Should Not Be Ignored

The symptoms of hemorrhoids are noticeable fairly early, and may actually be treatable with home remedies or over-the-counter treatments. However, most people ignore the symptoms of hemorrhoids because they are embarrassed or don’t want to deal with them. This is a mistake.

Internal hemorrhoids are the most common type of hemorrhoid and occur because of continual strain during bowel movements, prolonged sitting, pregnancy, a sedentary lifestyle, eating a low-fiber diet, being overweight, standing or lifting too much, anal intercourse, and cirrhosis of the liver.

The symptoms of hemroids include small amounts of blood on the stool or on the toilet paper after wiping, discomfort from incomplete bowel movements, rectal itching, skin irritation, pain, and a soft lump felt at the anal opening.

The most noticeable internal hemorrhoids symptoms will be the blood in your stool. Blood in the stool doesn’t always mean hemorrhoids, though. A doctor can tell you more about what you have and recommend a course of action to take.

Internal hemorrhoids symptoms also include discomfort. This is caused by incomplete bowel movements, probably the result of a low-fiber diet. If this discomfort turns into severe pain, then you may have even bigger problems like colon or rectal cancer.

Symptoms of internal hemorrhoids also include rectal itching. This is because these kinds of hemorrhoids seep mucus. This causes irritation of the rectal tissue and causes the itching which can be continually bothersome and embarrassing for those who suffer from it.

As hemorrhoids grow and start to bulge out of the anus, they will start leaking their mucus onto the external skin of the buttocks. This is one of the symptoms of hemorrhoids that can be prevented if you start treatment soon enough.

Symptoms of hemorrhoids like outright pain will be noticeable as the hemorrhoids swell if they are further irritated by what originally caused them. Eating more fiber (about 25 grams a day) will help alleviate this swelling as you have healthier bowel movements.

If you feel a soft lump at the opening of the anus, start some kind of home remedy right away. This is the first sign of symptoms of hemorrhoids that, if left untreated, will become unbearable and require a doctor’s care.

The initial symptoms of hemorrhoids will tell you that something is definitely wrong. If you see blood in your stool, feel discomfort or pain in the rectal area, or have problems going to the bathroom, seek medical help as soon as possible.

A Healthier Penis in 5 Easy Steps – Personal Care for Every Man

Though many men think of their penis as merely a love organ that has one main function, the health and wellness of the male unit goes far above and beyond a satisfying sex life. In fact, penis health issues – if left untreated – can ultimately impact the health of the entire body. Yes, that’s right, the entire body. Find out 5 things every many can start doing today to maintain penis health, so that he can enjoy a fantastic sex life and a healthy body overall.

1. Exercise: Well, this one may be a no-brainer, as every man knows he should be putting in at least a little exercise every day. But what many men don’t know is that hitting the treadmill has healthy benefits for mind, body – and manhood! Yup, getting that blood pumping pushes blood to all areas of the body and improves circulation, which means the penis enjoys the benefits of increased oxygen and nutrients. A healthy circulatory system also reduces a man’s chance of falling victim to the dreaded erectile dysfunction, as poor circulation is one of the major contributing factors to a man not being able to get it up.

2. PC Flexes: Sometimes known as “male Kegels” men who exercise the pubococcygeus muscles have reported improvement in male incontinence and stronger, more powerful orgasms. Bonus! To find the muscles, a man can stop the flow of urine mid-stream – got ’em? Okay, now just like any other strength training, he needs to regularly flex those muscles; luckily, no gym membership is required. Simply flex the PC muscles, hold for a slow count of 5, release and repeat; do 3 sets of 10 reps, 3x a day – working up to 25 reps as the muscles get stronger.

3. Self-examination: Sure, taking a mirror to one’s nether regions my not be on the top of the to-do list for most men, but it should be. Regular self-exams are an excellent way to stay apprised with changes in the region. Not only does the area need to be thoroughly surveyed; a man also needs to get hands-on and feel around for lumps, bumps or tender areas. Male self-examination can turn up testicular cancer, penile cancer, as well as sexually transmitted infections – all of which can be very serious if they are not treated in a timely manner. So take 15 minutes once a month to become better acquainted with the boys downstairs!

4. Protect: Ever since junior high sex education, it has been pounded into the male psyche that condoms are important during sex, yet some men may still tune that little voice in their head out from time to time and skip the protection—especially in the heat of the moment. But believe it or not, that sex ed teacher was right. Condoms are the best form of protection from sexual infections, aside from abstinence. Additionally, getting regularly tested for STI’s — including HIV/AIDS — is imperative for every man who is sexually active – particularly if he is not in a monogamous relationship. Remember, just asking the other person if they are “clean” is not enough, as some people are asymptomatic carriers – meaning they have an active virus in their body but no symptoms.

5. Practice Good Hygiene: Nobody wants to be the smelly kid in class, and even worse is the smelly guy in the bedroom. Obviously, taking regular showers is important to “de-smellifying” the region, but there is even more a man can do to stay shower fresh all day long. Simply applying a penis health cream (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil) to the area after each shower can help beat odor that shower gels and soaps leave behind. Be sure to choose a male penis cream that contains vitamin A, as it works to fight the bacteria that are the number one cause of a smelly undercarriage.

Colon Cancer – Diagnosis, Causes, Symptoms, Treatement, and Prognosis

Colon cancer is cancer of the large intestine (colon), the lower part of your digestive system. Colon cancer is the second most common cancer in the USA with equal distribution between men and women. Colon tumors usually affect people over the age of 40, with the majority of people who are diagnosed with the condition being over 60 years of age. Colon cancer may affect any racial or ethnic group; however, some studies suggest that Americans of northern European heritage have a higher-than-average risk of colon tumours.

Colon cancer is more common in industrialized nations and in those societies where red meat is a major part of the diet, although evidence tends to suggest that merely changing your diet to white meat and seafood as in for instance Japan, tends to just swap stomach cancer for colon cancer. In almost all cases colon cancer is a treatable disease if caught early.

Colon cancer usually begins with the appearance of benign growths such as polyps. Often there are no early symptoms. If signs and symptoms of colon cancer do appear, they may include: a change in your bowel habits, including diarrhea or constipation or a change in the consistency of your stool for more than a couple of weeks, rectal bleeding or blood in your stool, persistent abdominal discomfort, such as cramps, gas or pain, abdominal pain with a bowel movement, a feeling that your bowel doesn’t empty completely, weakness or fatigue and unexplained weight loss.

Colon cancer’s exact cause is unknown, but it appears to be influenced by both inherited and environmental factors. Studies show a concentration in areas of higher economic development suggesting a relationship to diet, particularly excess animal fat and low fiber. Other factors that increase the risk of developing colon tumors are: age over 40, the presence of other diseases of the digestive tract, family history and ulcerative colitis.

Development of colon cancer at an early age, or at multiple sites, or recurrent colon cancer, suggests a genetically transmitted form of the disease as opposed to the sporadic form. There also is a slight increased risk for colon carcinoma in the individual who smokes.

The most common colon cancer cell type is adenocarcinoma which accounts for 95% of cases.

The development of polyps of the colon usually precedes the development of colon cancer by five or more years. The American Gastroenterologial Association revised its screening guidelines in 2003 to recommend that people with two or more first-degree relatives with colorectal cancer or a first-degree relative with colon or rectal cancer before age 60 should have a screening colonoscopy beginning at age 40 or beginning 10 years prior to the age of the earlier colon cancer diagnosis in their family (whichever is earliest). Those with a first-degree relative diagnosed with colon cancer after age 60 or two second-degree relative with colon or rectal cancer should begin screening at age 40 with one of the methods listed above, such as annual sigmoidoscopy. The most common colon cancer screening tests are colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and fecal occult blood test.

CT scans and Barium enemas are also routinely used for diagnosis of colon and rectal cancers.

Almost all colon tumors are treated with surgery first, regardless of stage. The malignant tumor, adjacent tissues and any lymph nodes that may contain cancer cells are removed.

In colon cancer, chemotherapy after surgery is usually only given if the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes (Stage III). Radiation therapy may also be used to induce tumor regression. As with other cancer treatments, the incidence of side effects varies with patient health and the exact nature of the treatment.

There is not an absolute method for preventing colon cancer. Still, there are steps an individual can take to dramatically lessen the risk or to identify the precursors of colon cancer so that it does not manifest itself. People who turn age 50, and all of those with a history of colon cancer in their families, should speak with their physicians about the most recent screening recommendations from physician and cancer organizations. They should watch for symptoms and attend all recommended screenings to increase the likelihood of catching colon cancer early. Exercise is believed to reduce the risk of colon cancer. Apparently, no association exists between frequency of bowel movement or laxative use and risk of colon cancer.

Prognosis depends on the stage of the disease and the overall health of the patient. If diagnosed early, before the tumor has spread from the bowel, these treatments are very effective, with about 90% of patients alive five years after diagnosis. If the colon cancer does not come back (recur) within 5 years, it is considered cured. Prognosis is poor in patients with liver and lung metastases.

Antacid Alternatives and Preventions

Heartburn is painful and is known as gastroesophageal reflux, a digestive disorder. It occurs when the esophagus valve weakens or does not work properly. This disorder allows acid to flow backward into the esophagus from the stomach.

It is considered a disease and could carry symptoms such as stomach pain, belching, queasiness and bloating. If these symptoms are accompanied by cold sweats, nausea, a squeezing sensation in the chest, chest pain, pain that radiates to the jaw, neck and arm; seek emergency care immediately.

Richard Leigh, M.D., a retired physician in Fort Collins Colorado states even though antacids make your stomach feel better they are not healthy. Taking antacids could interfere with the natural digestive process. They could destroy your ability to absorb nutrients. Over-the-counter antacid contains excessive sodium, aluminum, magnesium and calcium. Over a period of time, this could cause a mineral imbalance.

The symptoms of too little or too much acid are the same. In fact, in many cases the stomach does not generate enough acids to digest the food properly. Before taking an antacid find out which it is. Dr Leigh recommends additional hydrochloric acid (the substance needed to break down proteins into amino acids) such as Gas-X Extra Strength before meals. If too little acid is the problem, you will get immediate relief.

If you feel a mild burning sensation, then the problem is too much acid. Drink a glass of milk or a cup of water mixed with 1/4 or 1/3 teaspoon of baking soda to stop the burning sensation.

James Balch, M.D., a physician in Trophy Club Texas recommends drinking a cup of aloe gel for too much acid and to get instant relief. The gel aids in the protection and healing of the esophagus. Be sure to buy internal use aloe.

It would be great not to have heartburn. Here are a few preventions.Avoid fatty foods; they cause acid to enter the esophagus by weakening the esophageal valve.Avoid eating large meals because this will encourage the body to make a larger amount of acids.Avoid eating four hours before bedtime. Lying down after eating allows acid to flow into the esophagus.Avoid carbonated drinks (colas and beer), tomatoes and citrus fruits. These foods may trigger the stomach to make extra acid.Spicy foods are another reason for the stomach to produce extra acid.An ingredient in chocolate is a trigger to make acid.Tight clothing can make heartburn worse (belt, support hose and pants).Avoid spearmint and peppermint after meals as they can loosen the esophageal valve.Being 10 to 20 percent over weight can cause heartburn.Smoking can weaken your esophageal muscle. There are other reasons that can cause heartburn such as taking aspirin and ibuprofen. Illness such as cancer could cause excessive acid and eating processed foods.

Keep in mind that the symptoms of angina and heart attack sometimes mimic those of heartburn. If symptoms persist with no relief, get emergency medical help.
